Every year our family attends the MCAS Miramar Airshow. Billed as the Number 1 Airshow in the Country it never fails to disappoint. This year we visited on a rare rainy Sunday afternoon (because I had shoots Friday and Saturday) and while that concerned me a bit the Marines said “THE AIRSHOW WILL CONTINUE!” WHOORAH!
My dad spent twenty years in the Marines and was in both Korea and Vietnam. He retired in the early 70’s, but once a Marine always a Marine. This year I bought front row Box Seats for one purpose – well actually two. The first was so my dad would have an unobstructed view of the entire show and – this is most important – when the Marines of the MAGTF walk the in front of the Box Seats after their show he can high five and shake their hands. Throughout the entire show my dad could be seen tearing up.
We all know who this group is below: The Blue Angels. Nothing else needs to be said….
The Shockwave Jet Truck ensured its presence was seen, felt and heard.
The Breitling Jet Team had an awesome performance!
The F-35 Lightning II
The MAGTF: Marine Air-Ground Task Force. This was the main event which I wanted Dad to see. If they canceled every other display, but kept this so he could watch his Marines on the modern battlefield then it was worth every penny.
